Spartanburg Library Awards. 7th Annual Juried Exhibition


Aldo Muzzarelli & Yelitza Diaz were awarded again in The 7th Annual Juried Exhibition at Spartanburg Library. Reception and awards ceremony, August 24, 2019 at 7 pm. Exhibition open to the public on August 24 to October 23, 2019 at the Headquarters Library 151 S. Church St. Spartanburg, SC 29306.

Aldo Muizzarelli y Yelitza Diaz reciben premiso en la 7ma edición del Salón Anual con Jurado de Las Librerías Públicas del Condado de Spartanburg.

Durante la gala de esta importante muestra se entregaron los premios a los artistas ganadores.

Cabe destacar que el premio otorgado al artista de origen venezolano Aldo Muzzarelli fue recibido por su señora esposa y también galardonada artista plástico Yelitza Diaz, ya que Muzzarelli se encuentra fuera del país realizando estudios de especialización en dos importantes disciplinas de las artes plásticas.

ALDO Muzzarelli ha expresado desde Ayamonte (Huelva, España) donde se encuentra en estos momentos realizando un curso de Dorado al Agua y Estofados en Oro Fino con el prestigioso Maestro Andaluz Manuel Rodríguez González, lo siguiente:

“Me siento honrado con esta distinción, por lo que doy gracias a Dios, a mi esposa, a mi familia, amigos y a los organizadores del concurso, especialmente a Miranda Mims Sawyer, coordinadora de arte de las librerías del Condado de Spartanburg y al jurado de esta 7ma edición, Sandra Rupp.

Agradezco también que la sede principal de la biblioteca haya decidido adquirir mi obra; es para mi un doble honor el formar parte de la pinacoteca de esta prestigiosa institución…”

Posteriormente Muzzarelli viajara a León, donde asistirá a un un segundo curso de arte sobre stucco mármol dictado por centro de oficios tradicionales Homo Faber, con el afamado instructor francés Patrick Trankart



Aldo Muzzarelli receives the 3rd prize in the 7th edition of the Annual Hall with Jury of the Public Libraries of Spartanburg County.

During the gala of this important show, the prizes were awarded to the winning artists.

It should be noted that the prize awarded to the Venezuelan-born artist Aldo Muzzarelli was received by his wife and also a plastic artist Yelitza Diaz, since Muzzarelli is outside the country carrying out specialization studies in two important plastic arts disciplines

ALDO Muzzarelli has expressed from Ayamonte (Huelva, Spain) where he is currently doing a course of Dorado al Agua and Estofed in Fine Gold with the prestigious Andalusian Master Manuel Rodríguez González, the following:

“I am honored with this distinction, for which I thank God, my wife, my family, friends and the organizers of the contest, especially Miranda Mims Sawyer, art coordinator of the Spartanburg County bookstores and the jury of this 7th edition, Sandra Rupp.

I am also grateful that the headquarters of the library have decided to acquire my work; It is a double honor for me to be part of the art gallery of this prestigious institution… ”

Later Muzzarelli will travel to León where he will attend a second art course on stucco marble taught by Homo Faber Art Center, with the famous French instructor Patrick Trankart.

Juror: Sandra Rupp

Director of Hampton III Gallery for over 25 years, Sandra Rupp works with around 25 living artists, as well as the estates of several deceased artists. Some estates and artists that she has worked include: Edmund Yaghjian, Sigmund Abeles, Carl Blair, William Halsey, Leo Twiggs, Charles Quest and Merton Simpson. She organizes 5-6 gallery exhibitions a year at the gallery which focuses mostly on Southern artists, particularly those with a SC connection. In addition to her gallery work, she assists museums in their programming. In recent years she has worked with the University of Ga. Museum in Athens, Ga., in organizing the Leo Twiggs' retrospective; curated the Sigmund Abeles' retrospective at the Burroughs-Chapin Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC; worked on the Carl Blair retrospective and the Merton Simpson Confrontations exhibition at the Greenville Museum in Greenville, SC. Other museums that she has assisted include: Gibbs Museum, Charleston, SC; Asheville Museum, Asheville, NC; SC State Museum, Columbia, SC; Columbia Museum, Columbia, SC; Morris Museum, Augusta, Ga.; Florence Museum, Florence, S.C. Pickens Museum, Pickens, S.C., Mansur Museum, Monroe, Louisiana, Las Vegas Art Museum, Las Vegas, Nevada, Columbia College, Columbia, S.C, Brooklyn Museum of Art, among others. She also works with private and corporate collections including the Johnson Collection, Spartanburg, SC; Palmetto Bank, Greenville, SC., and the Duke Foundation, Raleigh, NC


In 2001 she was appointed by the mayor to serve on the committee of Art in Public Places. She has consulted with the Falls Park leadership in helping to secure a Joel Shapiro sculpture for the park. She was appointed in 2006 by County Council to serve as a member of the Accommodation Tax committee in which she served as vice chairman.


In 2009 she organized the Chairman’s Exhibition for Artisphere in Greenville, S.C. She was appointed to the board of Artisphere that year. Artisphere is one of the largest art festivals in the country.


In 2019, Hampton III Gallery received the honor of receiving the Elizabeth O’Neal Verner award in the business category for SC.
