“People from here” 1st place 2019, Painting by Yelitza Diaz

"People from here", is the title of the work presented by Yelitza Diaz, with which she pays tribute to her former colleagues, friends who served as models; happy faces, drawn with graphite pencil on canvas and then painted with a dazzling color that reminds us of spring.

The artist, usually known for her award-winning sculptures of ”Small Beings”, made in clay and painted to look like bronze, this time with a painting, stands with the 1st prize in this prestigious contest of the Metropolitan Art Council (MAC) of the City of Greenville.

The organizers of the event, year after year, encourage the community of artists of Greenville SC., To show their great artistic talent, these pieces are up to enjoy in exhibition, throughout the month of June (until July 19th) at the Metropolitan Art Council (MAC) located at 16 Augusta Street, Greenville SC. Monday - Friday | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

The tenth annual Flat Out Under Pressure (FOUP), MAC’s unique program involving the visual arts and sound environmental practices in downtown Greenville, will be held on June 14-15, 2019. With eight bins for paper, plastic and glass in various locations along Main Street, FOUP encourages recycling among pedestrians while creating a different exhibiting opportunity for visual artists.

1st place 2018

The event begins with a 24-hour art-making juried competition. The selected winners will be given the opportunity to choose two images of their work for reproduction on the bins. The winning artists also receive cash prizes and the 1st place winner is awarded a week-long trip to Italy for two to stay in the beautiful Villa Sant’ Andrea. On Friday, June 14th, artists will come to MAC to get their surfaces officially stamped. The surfaces will be returned to MAC within 24 hours as works of art. The works will then be juried that afternoon and the awards reception will be held the evening of June 15. All submitted works will be displayed in the MAC Gallery until July 19th, 2019.
